Opinion and Column Writing @ DePaul University

It was not an auspicious start to the inaugural class of Journalism 514. This was the first time a courses on opinion and column writing was being offered at DePaul University. It might also have been the first time the professor—me—had trouble gaining access to his own classroom.

There is no prescribed career path anyone must take in order to become a columnist in any medium. Take me, for example.
